Evidence That Shapes Practice, Research That Elevates Care

At the Sindh Institute of Advanced Endoscopy and Gastroenterology (SIAG), we believe that advancing medical knowledge is not just a responsibility — it’s a vital part of delivering cutting-edge, patient-centered care. Our Research and Clinical Trials Unit stands at the forefront of gastroenterology innovation in Pakistan, generating data that drives change, shapes guidelines, and improves lives.

A Center for Academic Excellence

SIAG is proud to be one of the few public-sector institutions in Pakistan that blends high-quality clinical care with internationally recognized research output. Our academic team regularly conducts studies across a range of specialties including:

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
  • Hepatobiliary and pancreatic disorders
  • Advanced imaging and manometry
  • Artificial intelligence in gastroenterology
  • Health systems and service delivery

Our research is routinely published in PubMed-indexed, peer-reviewed journals, showcasing the work of our clinicians and scientists on both national and global platforms.

DRAP-Certified Clinical Trial Site

SIAG is officially certified by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) as an authorized Clinical Trial Site, equipped to conduct regulated interventional and observational studies. These include:

  • Pharmaceutical drug trials (Phase II–IV)
  • Medical device validation and post-market surveillance
  • Diagnostic method comparisons and accuracy studies
  • Real-world effectiveness and registry-based trials

All trials at SIAG are conducted in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and international ethical standards.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

To ensure ethical integrity and participant safety, SIAG has its own Institutional Review Board (IRB) — a registered ethics committee that:

  • Reviews and approves all study protocols before initiation
  • Monitors ongoing studies for adherence to approved procedures
  • Evaluates adverse events and patient safety reports
  • Ensures transparency, accountability, and scientific rigor

The presence of an in-house IRB strengthens our capacity to conduct independent, ethically sound research, and reflects our deep commitment to responsible scientific inquiry.

A Certified, Multidisciplinary Research Team

Our research success is powered by a dedicated team of certified professionals, including:

  • Clinical Trial Coordinators with DRAP and GCP certifications
  • Senior Principal Investigators and Research Specialists
  • Qualified Research Nurses trained in trial protocols and safety monitoring
  • In-house Biostatistician for real-time analysis and reporting
  • Data managers and regulatory compliance officers

Together, they ensure that every trial is conducted with precision, care, and strict adherence to international standards.

Advancing Public Sector Research

At SIAG, research is deeply rooted in our mission to make healthcare smarter and more equitable. We are:

  • Generating context-relevant evidence to guide regional healthcare policy
  • Making clinical trials accessible to patients who need them most
  • Building a culture of academic mentorship and inquiry
  • Bridging the gap between frontline practice and global science

By doing so, we place Pakistan on the map of global clinical research, while ensuring that underserved populations benefit from the latest advancements.

Our Commitment

At SIAG, research is more than a parallel track — it is integrated into clinical care. Every study we undertake is built on ethical oversight, scientific merit, and a drive to improve patient outcomes. With a DRAP-certified site, a fully functional IRB, and a robust multidisciplinary team, we are proud to lead by example in Pakistan’s public health landscape.

We don’t just follow global standards — we contribute to them.
